World Day for Safety and Health at Work – 28 April 2010

This year, under the theme "Emerging risks and new patterns of prevention in a changing world of work" the day will draw attention on the current global challenges and the new context of occupational safety and health practice. It highlights technological advance, emerging workplace risks, and changing patterns of employment and workforce and thus, the need for new preventive approaches in facing these new challenges.

Emerging risks and new patterns of prevention in a changing world of work

As every year, the ILO Programme on Safety and Health at Work and the Environment has prepared a brochure to serve as a background to the theme. The brochure calls for the design and development of innovative national and regional strategies and programmes, emphasizing the roles of governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, safety and health practitioners and other stakeholders. It also recognizes ILO’s responsibility in spreading a preventive culture, through its standards and technical know-how, looking forward to a joint effort in reducing work-related fatalities, accidents and diseases.
