The ILO Library leads a global network of ILO information services around the world. A key tool used by this network is the ILO's database, Labordoc, which is used at ILO Headquarters and by an increasing number of ILO information centres to organize their print and digital collections.
The following two manuals set out ILO standards for describing print, electronic and online documents in Labordoc.
Labordoc Cataloguing Manual
This manual provides a complete guide to ILO Library practice on cataloguing in Labordoc. For the most part the ILO Library follows international cataloguing standards but has adapted some of the rules to enhance retrieval and make it easier to find ILO knowledge. It provides step-by-step instructions for the use of Voyager, the integrated library system used by the ILO.
The manual is available in English - pdf 1039 KB, French - pdf 1090 KB and Spanish - pdf 1121 KB.
Labordoc Indexing Techniques
This manual presents techniques in subject content analysis, or indexing, for the preparation of bibliographic records for the Labordoc database. It emphasizes a practical approach to indexing, providing samples of bibliographic records and guidelines in the use of indexing terms (descriptors).
The manual is available in English - pdf 517 KB, French - pdf 225 KB and Spanish - pdf 660 KB.
