Anne Knowles joined the SRO-Budapest Office in August 2007 as the new Senior Specialist for Employers' Activities. In that role she works with Employers' Organisations in the subregion providing advice and technical assistance to build their capacity to better represent their employer members and provide them with needed services. Prior to her arrival in Budapest Anne Knowles was in the same role in the ILO's South East Asia subregional office based in Bangkok.
Before joining the ILO in February 2004 Anne Knowles spent some 20 years working for Employers' Organisations in New Zealand - first with the New Zealand Meat Export Processing Industry Association and then with the New Zealand Employers' Federation, becoming Chief Executive in January 2000. She was closely involved with the ILO during her time with NZEF, being the Employers' Group Spokesperson for the Maternity Protection Convention in 1999-2000 and for the General Discussion on Occupational Safety and Health in 2003.
Anne Knowles has an Honours degree in Law from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme of the University of Hawaii.
