 Regional Workshop to prepare a network of Trade Union Focal Points in source and destination countries
25 - 26 November 2008, Kiev, Ukraine
This high-level event is closely linked to the Global Trade Union Alliance to Combat Forced Labour and Trafficking and will raise awareness and facilitate co-operation and partnership to fight human trafficking, bringing together representatives from trade unions and NGOs from Greece, Italy, Ireland, Moldova, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain and Ukraine.
The regional workshop is part of the EC funded ILO project “Elimination of human trafficking from Moldova and Ukraine through labour market based measures” and is organized in cooperation with ILO and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). The workshop will feature experts and key actors in the fight against forced labour and trafficking for labour exploitation.

Regional Workshop for Employers' Organisations on Strategies against Human Trafficking and Forced Labour
Organized by the ILO, the International Center for Migration Policy Development and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine
21-22 May 2008, Kiev, Ukraine
The workshop brought together representatives of employers' organisations and international enterprises from Moldova, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania and Ukraine, as well as experts from the ILO Special Action Programme to Combat Forced Labour (Geneva), ILO SRO-Budapest and ILO SRO-Moscow, representatives of OSCE, IOM, UN Global Compact, and La Strada Ukraine. The regional workshop was organized in the framework of the "Elimination of human trafficking from Moldova and Ukraine through labour market based measures" project, financed by the European Commission.
The overall objective of the workshop was to demonstrate the role employers' organizations and business can play at different levels of their management and operations to prevent forced labour and trafficking, and to support employers' organizations to develop strategies and activities against human trafficking and forced labour.
Launch of the Code of Conduct for Employers on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Agriculture and the Food Industry

On 19 December the Council of the National Federation of Employers in Agriculture and Food Industry (FNPAIA) in Moldova unanimously endorsed a Code of Conduct for Employers on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in Agriculture and the Food Industry with the support of the Bureau for Employers Activities (ACT/EMP) of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The Code was the result of a three year long project funded by the Norwegian Government. The Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade, Mr Sergiu Sainciuc who met with representatives of FNPAIA and ACT/EMP on the previous day expressed his appreciation that the National Federation of Employers in Agriculture and Food Industry had responded so positively to the challenge of child labour in this sector. He considered this initiative gave practical support and reinforcement to the Government’s ratification of the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention 182 in July 2007.

A package for social and economic progress
