Purpose of the forum

The socio-economic aspect of post-conflict reconstruction, in particular in the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) of ex-combatants context, has been one of the most difficult challenges in peacebuilding in conflict-affected societies. The ILO has increasingly engaged in peacebuilding through employment generation, livelihood and economic recovery. The ILO has involved in peacebuilding through various activities such as DDR, community-based livelihood recovery and vocational training.

This joint ILO-Peacebuilding Forum Seminar tried to introduce the ILO's empirical experience in generating and securing peace through "Decent Work". The seminar emphasized the growing need for economic recovery assistance and for training practitioners in the field in order to sustain peace in post-conflict societies.
