Nepal
Nepal became a member of the ILO in 1966. In 2005, the constituents of Nepal, in line with Nepal's PRS, have developed a National Plan for Action for Decent Work for a 10 year period. In view of the present political situation in the country, Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) will be prepared in close collaboration and consultation with the ILO's constituents after the new Government is in place. Currently the following three priorities are being discussed with the constitutents for the biennium 2006-07.
- More and Better Jobs for Women, Youth and Socially Excluded Groups (Dalit and Ethinic minorities);
- Progressive Reduction of Child Bonded Labour and Increased Awareness against Trafficking in children; and
- Strengthened Capacity of Social Partners to Effectively Engage in Social and Economic Policies Formulation and Legal Review.
The ILO Office in Nepal has been maintaining very close partnership with employers' and workers' organizations. The key areas of collaboration with those organizations include unionization of informal workers, particularly workers in the agriculture sector, minimum wage enactment, amendments to labour law, capacity building of social partners and the establishment of a social dialogue mechanism, as well as the participation and contribution of the trade unions and the employers' organizations in formulating the PRSP, the Tenth National Development Plan and ratifications of ILO Conventions, etc.
