11 COUNTRIES JOIN THE ILO TO REVIEW PROGRESS TOWARDS DECENT WORK

The International Labour Organization (ILO) will bring together 11 countries at the
2nd South-East Asia and the Pacific Subregional Tripartite Forum on Decent Work
which will be held from 5-8 April 2005 in Melbourne, Australia.
Joining the forum are 33 representatives from government, workers and employers' organizations
from Australia, Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa,
Solomon Islands, Timor Leste and Vanuatu as well as a number of observers.more info

ACCI JOINTLY HOSTING IMPORTANT INTERNATIONAL MEETING IN AUSTRALIA
IN EMPLOYMENT AND WORKPLACE ISSUES
|
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) President Mr. Neville Sawyer
today told the Forum that stable and prosperous economies and workplaces in our immediate region
were goals that should be pursued by the ILO and all countries,
and are to our collective benefit.
This objective was all the more significant given the need for regional co-operation and
economic reconstruction in the wake of the Boxing Day tsunami and the Easter Monday earthquake,
and the significant role Australia is playing in that undertaking. more info

LABOUR RIGHTS IN ASIA: THE ILO'S DECENT WORK AGENDA
|
The contentious issue of labour rights within Asia will be tackled
at a panel discussion featuring prominent international labour rights experts
at the University of Melbourne this evening (Thursday April 7).
The panel discussion will be presented by the University’s Centre
for Employment and Labour Relations Law, the Asian Law Centre,
the Australian Centre for International Business,
the Department of Management, the Asian Economics Centre and Asialink.
The Geneva-based International Labor Organization (ILO) is the world body
responsible for promoting labour standards through its Decent Work agenda.more info
