ENHANCING
THE CAPABILITY OF THE
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Objectives
The
program was directed at enhancing the capability of the NIBM
to organise, run and manage its Higher Diploma courses in
Computer Based Information Systems (HDCBIS), and covered a
3-year period from 1989 to 1992. The program, funded by UNDP
and executed by the ILO, on behalf of the National Institute
of Business Management (NIBM), with close partnership between
the University of Dublin (UCD) strengthened the Institute
in a number of ways.
Organisational / managerial development of the NIBM
The
overall professionalism of NIBM staff and systematic training
given by the UCD led to a gradual shift in the administration
and control of the HDCBIS from the hands of the UCD to the
NIBM, thus realising the main goal of the Project. Whereas
in 1989 the teaching, management and administration of the
project was carried out entirely by the UCD, by 1991, the
staff of the NIBM had assumed a larger part of that responsibility
and proved themselves to be very efficient in executing their
new task.
Course Development
A
significant output of the Project was the broad-basing and
re-structuring of the core curriculum, with six new modules
being introduced into the existing curriculum.
Equipment
Eight
microcomputers and a mini computer were installed at the NIBM
by the end of the Project under supervision by the UCD which
also monitored the suppliers and evaluated their capability
to maintain them.
Future objectives
The
project also led to some significant proposals for the future
that included a proposal for a degree program and the creation
of a strong applied research/consultancy facility through
the establishment of a Computer Imaging Unit, proving beyond
doubt that the ILO/UNDP funded project had more than realised
its goals. |
