ILO/SKILLS-AP/Korea Regional Technical Meeting on Skills Recognition for Migrant Workers
This meeting follows an earlier meeting in April 2007 where the Regional Model Competency Standards (RMCS) for Manufacturing were introduced to the countries involved in sending migrant workers to Korea. Following this workshop, the countries have compared the RMCS against their own national standards and identified differences. A small study was also carried out on a Survey of Korean Employers Needs and the ways that the RMCS can be used to assess skills prior to workers returning to their home countries. The meeting aims to compare and discuss RMCS validation among the sending countries and Korea and to reach a common understanding on the RMCS for manufacturing.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Thailand Regional Technical Meeting on Improving Skills Recognition and Quality and Qualification Systems for IMT-GT and GMS Countries
The objectives of this meeting were to provide participants with a good understanding of different options to address skills recognition, and develop ideas for further action to take nationally, identify potential areas for further country to country collaboration, and establish key questions for further ILO research and tool development.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Korea Second Technical Meeting of the Regional Skills Network Partner Organizations in Asia and the Pacific
The objective of this technical meeting was to explore how the Regional Skills Network could be made a more effective mechanism for sharing knowledge and expertise between countries in Asia and the Pacific. Skills challenges facing countries in the region were reviewed and response strategies of national training systems were discussed. Technical cooperation programmes of participating countries were discussed with an aim to improve practices and promote further collaboration. All member States in the region were invited.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Japan Regional Technical Meeting, Skills Development in the Pacific: the special skills needs of small island economies
The overall objective was to discuss the key issues and major challenges for skills development in the Pacific Island countries in developing national skills strategies and to explore how some of the recent successful examples of good practice could be used to assist countries as they go through the process of developing their national and possibly regional skills strategies. This process would assist countries to reorient national skills policies and systems to focus on the needs of working people, to promote learning and ensure that skills are constantly renewed and adapted for a wide variety of potential jobs. Specific discussions on youth employment, skills in the informal economy, and the development of competency standards and qualification frameworks were organized to facilitate this process.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Japan/Regional Workshop and Study Programme on Workplace Learning in Japan
This workshop was aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of workplace learning among regional partner organizations. A key feature of the workshop was to explore ways in which Japanese public policy has been used to promote workplace learning across a range of different enterprises. In addition to a number of technical sessions, the study programme involved visits to Japanese enterprises to observe and discuss different approaches to workplace learning and training. Participants from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Mongolia and Pakistan participated in this programme.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/KRIVET Regional Workshop on Improving Workplace Learning in Asia and the Pacific
The aim of this meeting was to assist member States develop workforce knowledge and skills by discussing ways in which public policy can be used to encourage enterprises to strengthen learning and training in the workplace. Lessons learned from the meeting contributed to the development of the ILO Guide to Improving Workplace Learning in Asia and the Pacific. Australia, China, India, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam were invited to attend.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Korea Regional Planning Workshop on Skills Recognition for Migrant Workers
The objective of this meeting was to develop a common understanding on key issues and challenges involved in identifying the skills of migrant workers from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam as required by Korean enterprises. The potential for harmonizing national skills recognition systems with Regional Model Competency Standards (RMCS) to better assist migrants locate productive employment was discussed. Sending countries analyzed differences in their national skills standards as compared to the RMCS and profiled their migrant workers in efforts to strengthen their skills recognition systems.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Japan/Regional Technical Meeting on Developing National Skills Strategies
This meeting discussed the key issues and major challenges in developing national skills strategies between partner organizations in the Regional Skills Network. The meeting explored successful good practice examples with an aim to assist selected countries develop their own national skills strategies. Participating countries prepared follow-up action plans outlining opportunities to support national skills policies and systems.

ILO/SKILL-AP/Japan Region Technical Meeting on Developing Skills and Employability for Young People in Asia and the Pacific
This meeting aimed to exchange information on existing approaches (legislation, policies, programmes) and good practices to identify areas for potential country-to-country collaboration on improving the skills and employability of young people through the Regional Skills Network. The meeting was organized around the themes of assisting disadvantaged youth, expanding opportunities for young people at work, developing priority skills for young people, and strengthening career guidance and counselling. Recommendations for future action among Network partners were recorded.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Japan/TESDA Regional Technical Meeting on Skills Development for Economic Empowerment and Poverty Reduction
The objective of this technical meeting was to explore and discuss how different approaches to skills development have been used in the region to promote economic empowerment and reduce poverty. Good practice from the region, including that of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the Philippines, along with ILO’s TREE for Asia and the Pacific package were discussed. ILO project experiences in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Indonesia and Nepal were also reviewed. Major lessons learned, innovative examples and key issues on skills development were presented.

ILO Asian Regional Meeting
The ARM is held every four years and brings together the political, economic and social actors from the countries of the Asia Pacific region.
This 14th Meeting focused particularly on the themes taken up in the two reports of the Director-General. The implementation report on Decent Work in Asia, Reporting on Results 2001-2004 responds directly to the conclusions of the previous ARM, which had called upon the Office to provide information on and evaluation of the follow-up to the conclusions of previous regional meetings, specifically on the progress made in the national plans of action for decent work.

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Thailand Regional Technical Meeting on Developing Skills Standards and Improving the Quality and Effectiveness of Training in IMT-GT and GMS Countries
This meeting brought together constituents from the Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) to discuss key issues on skills standards and recognition systems and explore appropriate forms of the collaboration among IMT-GT and GMS countries to facilitate mobility of skilled workers in these countries. It was also aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of training systems in these countries. The meeting was hosted by Songkhla Province in Thailand and supported by the Department of Skills Development and Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA).

ILO/SKILLS-AP/Japan Second Planning Meeting of the Regional
Skills Network Partner Organizations: A regional approach to skills recognition and qualifications systems
This meeting built on the successful First Technical Meeting of the Regional Skills Network Partner Institutions in November, 2005 in Korea, which involved all member States in the region. It focused on planning technical cooperation activities, together with Partner Organizations, on skills recognition, qualifications frameworks and the mobility of workers. This was a major theme identified in the First Technical Meeting.

education and training institutions: A Management Handbook and CD-ROM
This workshop presented the new Handbook/CD-ROM and gave the participants the opportunity to use the Handbook and CD-ROM to evaluate their VET policies and systems and develop Action Plans to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, quality of and equal access to training delivery.
