UNDP/ILO, November 2005: Batik makers in Phang Nga decided to mark the first annivasary of the tsunami by creating what they believe to be the world's longest batik, telling the story of what happened in Thailand on 26 December 2004.  The ILO together with the Phuket Federation of Hotel and Labor Service (PFHLS) provided business start-up and skills training to help the artists set up their workshop, after they lost their tourism industry jobs.

Tourism industry workers who lost their jobs after the tsunami decided to open a batik-making workshop after business start-up and skills training provided  by the ILO and the Phuket Federation of Hotel and Labor Services (PFHLS).

UNDP/ILO, November 2005: The ILO worked with local partners in Phuket to offer those who lost their livelihoods because of the tsunami the opportunity to upgrade their skills and find new ways of making a living.

UNDP/ILO, November 2005: A display about sexual health and HIV/AIDS at the Empower Foundation drop-in center for sex workers in Patong, Phuket.  After the tsunami the ILO supported Empower’s work to prevent HIV/AIDS, which includes English lessons, negotiating skills and health education.
