OBJECTIVES
These include compiling, selecting, processing and disseminating information about vocational training, education, competences, occupational certification, social, economic and rural development, legislation, youth, women, professional rehabilitation, work and employment, financing, security and hygiene, training-employment relationship, technological change and subjects related to the aim of fulfilling the needs demanded by the economic and social situation of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
HISTORY
At the Seventh Conference of Latin American Countries Members of ILO which took place in Buenos Aires in April 1961 the creation of Cinterfor was determined and approved by the ILO Governing Body in 1962.
Among its basic purposes there appeared two which were directly related to information:
- Collecting all the documentation concerning all aspects of vocational training and, therefore, establishing the necessary contacts with the various organisations specialised in such matter.
- Disseminating such documentation in an appropriate manner among the interested national organisations.
In 1965 the Information Service is created developing an agile and flexible organisational structure with the role of channelling and spreading information to its member organisations.
Since then, the IDS has been operating with great flexibility, organising seminars, workshops, consultanships and other events which gathered together specialists in vocational training information and other subjects making it possible for them to share experiences.
Important actions were carried out in the field of normalisation and implementation of Information Services in Latin America and the Caribbean. Likewise, tools which acted as support for the services of procedures manuals, thesaurus, work routines and technical reports were created.
