Caribbean Journal of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Workforce DevelopmentCaribbean Journal of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Workforce Development

The first issue of the Caribbean Journal of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Workforce Development was recently published, and presented in the workshop entitled "Developing a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Operating Model for CARICOM", organized by CANTA, CARICOM and the ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, from the 6th to the 8th of April 2005.

It is an official publication of the Caribbean Association of National Training Agencies (CANTA), which was an initiative undertaken by the individual National Training Agencies of the region upon realizing the need for the coordination and rationalization of TVET in the frame of the move towards a CARICOM Single Market and Economy.

This first issue of the journal takes up extremely important issues for the world of training and work, from both a theoretical and empirical viewpoint, with a particular emphasis on the Caribbean region.

The many articles included in the publication deal with subjects such as the role of TVET and CANTA in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, the role of work-force training and development for international competitiveness, the links between training and labour productivity, competency-based training and certification in the Caribbean and the move towards a Caribbean Vocational Qualifications Framework, among many others. All these are field in which the training agencies of the Caribbean region have a vast experience, which is being shared and strengthened through mechanism such as CANTA.
