Every four years, the American Regional Meeting brings together the
tripartite representatives of ILO member States, together with high-level
political, economic, social and labour actors from the countries of
the Region. This Sixteenth Meeting will focus particularly on the
themes taken up in the two-volume of the Report of the Director General:
Promoting
decent work in the Americas: The regional agenda, 2006-2015 and
ILO activities in the Americas, 2003-2006 and
The first volume reviews ILO activities in the Region since
the last Regional Meeting, held in 2002; it contains practical guidance
on the cooperation that the ILO can provide to its constituents in
achieving common objectives, placing emphasis on results obtained;
The second volume contains an in-depth analysis of the prospects
for the implementation of decent work in the Americas Region and suggests
key policy areas (general and specific) to be developed in accordance
with the ILOs strategic objectives.
The discussion of the Report of the Director-General will take the
form of a series of panel-led debates in plenary, with open participation
from the floor. There will also be special activities and events,
the details of which will be communicated in due course.
The conclusions of the Meeting, as well as any possible resolutions,
will be adopted on Friday, 5 May, after which there will be a closing
ceremony. A report of the Meeting will also be produced.
