90th Anniversary

On April 23rd 2009, under the auspices of H.E. President Mohamed Hosny Mubarak, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, ILO/SRO - for North Africa-Cairo, celebrated 90 Years Working for Social Justice! Our Inaugural ceremony for ILO 90th Anniversary took place at the Cairo International Conference Center (CICC). This event is considered a perfect practical example of the tripartite alliance. Mrs. Aisha Abd El Hady, Minister of Manpower and Migration, presented H.E. President Mubarak’s speech on his behalf, in addition to speeches by Mr. Hussein Megawer, President of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation, and by Mr. Samir Allam, Head of the Labour Law Committee, Federation of Egyptian Industries, on behalf of Mr. Galal El Zorba, President of the Federation of Egyptian Industries. Dr. Yousef Qaryouti, Director, ILO-SRO-Cairo gave a welcome address, also Dr. Ahmed Luqman, Director-General of the Arab Labor Organization gave his speech, followed by Mr. Assane Diop, ILO Executive Director, Social Protection Sector, who gave a speech on the behalf of the Director General of the International Labor Organization. Each and every speech was a powerful manifestation of ILO’s fruitful journey, and resonated 90 years working for social justice.

We started our Ceremony by screening an Arabic-subtitled version of the curtain raiser movie for the 90th Anniversary. This was truly inspirational, taking us back through memory lane of ILO history. The Postal Authority presented Minister Aisha Abd El Hady, and Dr. Yousef Qaryouti with a Memorial Stamp. Moreover, ILO-SRO-Cairo honored key Egyptian contributors who provided the ILO with exemplary services, presenting them with a certificate and a unique personalized Silver Coin that we exclusively designed and was issued by the Egyptian Mint House. Our ceremony, which attracted more than 400 attendees, including Ministers, Parliamentarians, Diplomats, UN Country Team Members, ILO Honorees, Representatives of Government, Workers, and Employers, received full media coverage that echoed in both local and regional Newspapers and TV. Each and every attendee left the event with a bag that we proudly created to commemorate ILO 90th Anniversary, which included some stationary with our unique and exclusive theme celebrating 90 years working for social justice!

ILO-SRO-Cairo is proud to send you the fruit of our inaugural ceremony, such as articles in newspapers, videos and snap shots of the event, pictures of our exclusive 90th Anniversary bag with its promotional items, the memorial stamp, and the Silver Coin that we designed and minted to present to our Honorees, and our Programme for the event, as well as, the speeches that were addressed. Also we will upload on FTP address that we will provide you with shortly, the Arabic-subtitled version of the curtain raiser movie for the 90th Anniversary, along with its Arabic script, incase it is needed by any other Arabic-speaking country celebrating ILO 90th Anniversary around the world, as well as a video of our Inaugural ceremony.

ILO-SRO-Cairo still has an upcoming event on Tuesday 28th April, 2009 in which Dr. Samir Radwan; Advisor to the Chairman and Board Member of GAFI, will be making a presentation on the paper he prepared entitled “The Financial and Economic Crisis: Impact on the Egyptian Economy and Labour Market". The event will be hosted by the Federation of the Egyptian Industries at their premises. This comes as part of ILO/SRO-Cairo events in celebration of the 90th Anniversary.
