  • 2 March 2010, Cairo, Egypt
    ILO and UNIC celebrate Social Justice Day
    In cooperation with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), the ILO organized a press conference on the 2nd of March 2010 at the UNIC premises in Cairo to promote their work for social justice in the region. The press conference involved speeches by Yousef Qaryouti, Director of ILO SRO Cario and Khawla Matar, Director of UNIC Office in Cairo. Journalists were then involved into a Q&A session about current labour issues in the region and how the ILO is working to promote social justice.
  • 20-21 December 2009, Cairo, Egypt
    The Global Jobs Pact in Egypt. Roundtable on Mitigating the Impact of the Global Economic Crisis on Egypt’s Economy and Labour Market
    The Employment Policy Department in collaboration with the ILO Sub-regional Office for North Africa organized a tripartite Roundtable to discuss the impact of the global economic crisis on the Egyptian economy and labour market as well as policy responses to mitigate this impact.

    First Pan-African Forum on Women’s Entrepreneurship Development in Response to the Financial and Economic Crisis
    The ILO and the AFBD are co-organizing a regional forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities to promote women-owned enterprises in response to the financial crisis. This forum on Women’s Entrepreneurship Development is part of the implementation of the Global Jobs Pact in Africa. It is also part of the African Women In Business Initiative launched by AfDB in 2004 to promote the role of women in business and empower women entrepreneurs, in particular small and medium ones through better access to finance. The forum will offer a platform to African women entrepreneurs and various players involved in Women’s Entrepreneurship Development to discuss the challenges and opportunities to growing and supporting sustainable women-owned enterprises in Africa in the context of the current global recession and beyond.

    Workshop: Roles and Responsibilities in Protecting workers against work Related Accidents and Illnesses
    In a successful attempt to strengthen tripartite cooperation and social dialogue in Egypt, a workshop was organized to bring government officials, employees and employers together to discuss current problems in the workplace and ways to overcome them. “Roles and Responsibilities of the Government and the Social Partners in Improving Occupational Safety and Health at the Workplace in Egypt,” was organized by the ILO and the Ministry of Manpower and Migration on September 28-29, 2009.

    90th Anniversary
    On April 23rd 2009, under the auspices of H.E. President Mohamed Hosny Mubarak, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, ILO/SRO - for North Africa-Cairo, celebrated 90 Years Working for Social Justice! Our Inaugural ceremony for ILO 90th Anniversary took place at the Cairo International Conference Center (CICC).
