    ILO, WFP and UNICEF Celebrate the World Day against Child Labour
    ILO was pleased to join hands with the WFP and UNICEF to celebrate the 12th of June World Day against Child Labour that took place on Tuesday, 1st of June 2010 at Saqyet Al Sawy Cultural Center in Zamalek. The celebration included three plays performed by children from Assiut, Beni Suef and Sohag attended by HE Mrs. Aisha Abdel Hady, Egyptian Minister of Manpower and Migration and Khaled Aboul Naga, Goodwill Ambassador, UNICEF.

    First Meeting of the AEF Tripartite follow up Committee
    The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Arab Labour Organization (ALO) are hosting the first meeting of the AEF Technical Tripartite Committee in Cairo. Four representatives from each of the Governments, Employers’ and Workers’ Organizations will participate to establish the mandate and work plan of the AEF Tripartite Committee.
    The meeting will seek to:
    • Establish commitment among the social partners to tripartism principles and modalities of work;
    • Establish the mandate and terms of reference of the AEF Tripartite Committee;
    • Determine priority areas of work for the biennium 2010-2011 to operationalize the Arab Action Agenda for Employment;

    International Knowledge Sharing Conference on Entrepreneurship Education
    Under the patronage of H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt, the ILO in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower and Migration is organizing a conference on entrepreneurship education where policy makers, youth entrepreneurship promoters, teachers, trainers, and course developers from high schools, technical vocational training institutions and higher education, can share knowledge and lessons learned on effective policies and implementation strategies to create the next wave of entrepreneurs in the MENA region.
  • 2 March 2010, Cairo, Egypt
    ILO and UNIC celebrate Social Justice Day
    In cooperation with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), the ILO organized a press conference on the 2nd of March 2010 at the UNIC premises in Cairo to promote their work for social justice in the region. The press conference involved speeches by Yousef Qaryouti, Director of ILO SRO Cario and Khawla Matar, Director of UNIC Office in Cairo. Journalists were then involved into a Q&A session about current labour issues in the region and how the ILO is working to promote social justice.
