ILO field offices
Africa
Activities are taking place in the following countries:
Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia.
They include policy development with employers' and workers' organizations, including support for the Zambia Business Coalition on AIDS; training Ministry of Labour and other Ministry officials, including social security departments and labour inspectors; a study with the Employers' Federation in Cameroon on the impact of AIDS on enterprises, and another on AIDS and social protection in Kenya and Tanzania; collaboration with UNAIDS inter-country team for West and Central Africa on sub-regional programmes for migrant and mobile workers; fact-finding and project development mission to Guinea; technical support for several UNAIDS projects in Ethiopia, including income generating activities for former sex workers supporting HIV prevention and AIDS management in small and medium enterprises in South Africa. Of particular importance in a number of countries are advisory services on legal reform, one of the types of assistance most frequently requested.
An increasing number of other ILO programmes are integrating activities to combat HIV/AIDS, for example Jobs for Africa, the Small Enterprise Development programme (SEED), Strategies and Tools against Social Exclusion and Poverty (STEP), and the InFocus Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC).
Asia & the Pacific
Activities are taking place in the following countries:
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand.
They include advisory services on legal reform and policy development, support for the creation of business coalitions and enterprise training programmes, impact studies, projects for migrant workers, workers' education programmes, business start-up training for former sex workers, and advice on reform of social security provisions.

Eastern Europe and Central Asia
Workshops to mobilize the social partners and initiate training in the implementation of the Code of Practice, as well as advisory services with government, have taken place in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.

Middle East and North Africa
The ILO's multidisciplinary advisory team for North Africa is carrying out a project to promote awareness raising on HIV/AIDS in the hotel, catering and tourism industry in Egypt. The ILO office in Beirut has initiated a project on occupational exposure to HIV among health care workers, based on the implementation of the ILO code of practice. Both projects are funded by the UNAIDS Project Acceleration Fund (PAF).
Latin America & the Caribbean
Activities to launch the Code of Practice, mobilize the social partners, and guide workplace action have taken place in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. The Code is being widely used in several countries, often - as in Chile, for example - being actively promoted by the UN Theme Group on AIDS as a whole. The ILO office in Port of Spain takes part in CARICOM's programme of activities on HIV/AIDS, and launched the Code of Practice through a tripartite meeting for the Caribbean, which adopted a Plattform of Action.
