EMP/SKILLS and its role in the ILO Decent Work Agenda

The ILO strategic objectives form the backbone of its Decent Work Agenda. The second strategic objective of this Decent Work Agenda calls for the creation of “greater opportunities for women and men to secure decent employment and income”. To meet this objective, the ILO’s Skills and Employability Department(EMP/SKILLS) works toward achieving greater investment in training and skills development that aims to create these improved opportunities for women and men. EMP/SKILLS deals directly with one of three operational objectives expected to make a major contribution in meeting the demands of the ILO Decent Work Agenda. In response to a UN General Assembly resolution calling for a coherent global employment strategy that aims to significantly reduce the number of people living in extreme poverty, the ILO formulated the Global Employment Agenda . This Agenda contains a set of Policy Challenges that serves as guidelines for EMP/SKILLS in the implementation and achievement of its objective to meet the demands of the ILO Decent Work Agenda.
