Donors

ILO crisis response enjoys close cooperation with national donors, enabling its interventions to have the strongest impact with the resources available. ILO/CRISIS is constantly refining its resource mobilization strategy for the Whole of ILO approach. The strategy includes making potential donors familiar with ILO approaches and their importance, appropriate ILO representation at pledging conferences, and collaboration with development banks.

From 1999 to 2005, the InFocus Programme on Crisis Response and Reconstruction (IFP/CRISIS), the predecessor of ILO/CRISIS, mobilized US$53.25 million on projects around the world. Other activities, such as the sharing of publications and policy advice, are not reflected in this total but magnified the impact of the funds. Overall, the ILO has a strong record of effective interventions that make a concrete difference for those affected by crises. The programme has used donor resources to help ease ex-combatants back into society, empower disaster victims to find new work, and support budding entrepreneurs, among many other tasks. Throughout its efforts, the unit maintained sound controls and administrative procedures to maximize the impact of resources. ILO/CRISIS is now continuing this tradition and forging stronger ties to key donors for effective crisis response.

We invite donors, colleagues, partner organizations, members of the media, and the public to explore the Resource Mobilization Chart (see link to PDF below). It details all IFP/CRISIS country interventions. For each, the chart shows the country and type of crisis, the nature of the intervention, the technical areas addressed, and the sources and amounts of funding. Nothing illustrates more clearly the ILO commitment to use resources wisely to promote decent work in crises.
