Employers' organizations represent a key asset in any society: its enterprises. Successful enterprises are at the heart of any strategy to create employment and improve living standards. Employers' organizations help to create the conditions for enterprise success by influencing the environment in which they do business and by providing services that improve their individual performance. As one of the three constituents of the ILO, employers' organizations have a special relationship with the Organization. The ILO's Bureau for Employers' Organizations is responsible for the nurturing and development of that relationship.

  • International Day of Persons with Disabilities International Day of Persons with Disabilities - 3 December 2011
    The ILO Global Business and Disability Network has launched its web site on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December 2011. On the platform, visitors can learn about the Network and its members and access key disability resources. The new Network video, which can be viewed on this homepage, is a quick way to learn about the Network. It includes interviews of members and examples of people with disabilities at work.
    The new website helps companies and employers´ organizations in four ways: sharing knowledge and identifying good practices; developing products and services that facilitate hiring and retention of disabled people; strengthening technical expertise on disability issues, and linking members to ILO activities and partners at the national level and through their local offices and supply chains. The website was jointly set up by the ILO Disability Team in the Skills and Employability Department (EMP/SKILLS) in cooperation with Bureau for Employers´ Activities (ACT/EMP). Network members include nearly 60 multinational enterprises and employers´ organizations worldwide, in addition to disabled person´s organizations.

    This report presents 12 contemporary case studies of employers' organizations and business networks and their work around the issue of disability in the workplace. The profiles highlight how representative organizations of business engage with their members to address disability by illustrating key practices and activities, providing information and tools on disability and employment, influencing policy on employment and training of disabled people, providing career development opportunities and linking disabled job seekers with employers.

    Business membership organizations, including employers' organizations, are facing many challenges in today's increasingly crowded, globalized economy. Across all regions, the labour market is changing, along with traditional partners and old certainties. To better understand the factors that are driving change, ACT/EMP is bringing together representatives from business membership organizations to engage with prominent academics and experienced members of the business community in an interactive exchange of ideas on the challenges in the coming decade and what they mean for organizations that represent business.
