      President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner attends tripartite seminar on Decent Work, calls for ILO Involvement in the G20
      Attending a tripartite seminar on Decent Work in Buenos Aires as part of celebrations for the 90th Anniversary, H. E. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced that she will formally request that the ILO be included in future G20 discussions dealing with the current financial and economic Crisis. The tripartite seminar discussed the importance of social dialogue between governments, employers and workers, in the context of the international financial crisis and its significance for the labour market.

      Tripartite Agreement about Labour Skills
      Bolivia celebrated the ILO 90th Anniversary with a new Tripartite Agreement about Labour Skills. The labour stakeholders signed an agreement to promote a Skills Labour Certification which is supported by the ILO. This is one of the initiatives launched by the Ministry of Labor to promote decent work, job creation and better jobs as a response to the global crisis.

      Tripartite Meeting to Promote and Improve Work Conditions in the Construction Sector on occasion of the ILO 90th Anniversary
      The ILO 90th Anniversary in Bolivia was celebrated with a tripartite meeting and agreement to improve the working conditions in the construction sector. The Minister of Labour, the Permanent Secretary of the COB, and around 400 people, including representatives of workers and employers, attended the event.

      Solemn Session of the Senate in Brazil on the 90th Anniversary to discuss possible ratification of ILO Convention 87 about freedom of association
      The Senate session was requested by Senator Aloizio Mercadante. The Chamber of Deputies with the Foreign Relations Committee also discussed ILO issues. A judge of the Superior Labour Court (TST), Lélio Bentes Correa, and the President of the Association of Labour Judges, Claudio Montesso, called for the Brazilian government to ratify ILO Convention 87 about freedom of association.

      Technical Commission Meeting of the ILO CINTERFOR on occasion of the 90th Anniversary
      The Technical Commission of the ILO Cinterfor--the Inter-American Centre for Knowledge Development in Vocational Training---has been convened under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour and Employment of Brazil. Representatives from most countries of Latin America, together with Germany and Spain, attended this meeting to focus on the further development of vocational training. At the same time, a Knowledge Development Fair exhibited the innovative experiences of human resource training for MSMEs and productivity on occasion.

      Regulating Decent Work for Domestic Workers: International and Comparative Dialogue Celebrating the ILO at 90 & Preparing for Standard-Setting Into the Future.
      McGill University, Faculty of Law, and Inter-University Research Centre on Globalization and Work, under the initiative of Dr. Adelle Blackett, celebrates the ILO's 90th anniversary with an international seminar on regulating decent work for domestic workers and preparing for standard-setting in the future. This international seminar aims to bring together social partners, including domestic workers’ associations, and international and interdisciplinary researchers specialized in the field in order to encourage intensive consultation; an exchange to identify the policy issues involved; a comparsion of different regulatory approaches adopted in various countries; and reflections before the two upcoming sessions of the International Labour Conference in Geneva in June 2010 and 2011. Finally, this activity offers a chance for Canada to celebrate the 90 years since the ILO was established in 1919. To that end, a special exhibit commemorating the time during which Montreal was host to the ILO during the Second World War will be presented in the Atrium of McGill University’s Faculty of Law.

      Publication and launch of book on ILO Conventions ratified by Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay
      In celebration of the 90th Anniversary, a publication containing all labour conventions ratified by Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay was launched. Intended for use by social partners, this publication will be disseminated to 15000 people within national and international trade unions, employers associations, government institutions and libraries.

      Cinema Festival on occasion of the ILO 90th Anniversary

      President Bachelet of Chile launches joint ILO-UNDP Report on occasion of ILO 90th
      The President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, launched "Trabajo y Familia: hacia nuevas formas de conciliacion con coresponsabilidad social" a joint ILO-UNDP report about the relationship between Work and Family. She described this issue as one of the greatest challenges of our time and stressed the need, in a post-crisis world, for growth to be accompanied by social justice.

      XVII National Congress about Labour Rights and Social Security (XVII Congreso Nacional de Derecho del Trabajo y la Seguridad Social, se dedicaron dos sesiones a la OIT)
      Labour stakeholders met in panels and sessions on the subject of ILO standards on the occasion of the ILO 90th anniversary. This meeting took place in Cartagena de Indias with the participation of labour lawyers, attorneys and judges.

      The ILO Subregional Office for Andean Countries convened representatives of the trade unions CUT, CGT and CTC, along with ANDI and the Ministry of Social Welfare. Participants lauded ILO work in Colombia and called for social justice and a recognition of and respect for the principles and fundamental rights at work.

      Commemorative Plaque links Social Justice to Decent Work
      "Without decent work there is no social justice, without social justice there is no democracy" is inscribed on a plaque in Plaza de las Garantías Sociales at the heart of the capital of Costa Rica commemorating the ILO's 90th Anniversary and the 40th Anniversary of the ILO in Costa Rica. "Humanity would not be where it is now without the ILO" said the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Francisco Morales. "We believe in the supreme value of human labour," he added. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of workers and employers, municipal representatives, lawyers and former ministers, the ILO Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Director of the Subregional Office for Central America, Haiti, Panama and Dominican Republic.

      H.E. President Oscar Arias attends the joint National and International ILO Anniversary commemoration
      The ILO Office in Costa Rica celebrates its 40th anniversary as the ILO celebrates its 90th at a high level occasion with the President of the Republic. Events in Costa Rica ranged from regional courses for the development of small and medium enterprises and a sub-regional trade union meeting to craft a response to the crisis, to a workshop on gender equality and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

      Bipartite Declaration between trade unions and employers organizations on occasion of the 90th Anniversary
      Twenty employers and workers organisations from 8 countries--the 7 of Central America, and the Dominican Republic-- established ten priorities for the Crisis in a Subregional Meeting on the Employment Crisis and Social Dialogue. On the occasion of the ILO's 90th anniversary, they approved and signed a Bipartite Declaration (Declaración en el marco del 90 Aniversario de la OIT) which reaffirmed tripartism and social dialogue as the appropriate tool to find coherent solutions to the Crisis. The unions and employers also proposed a new Subregional Tripartite Advisory Committee for Social Dialogue.

      Simapro Workshop unites eleven Latin American countries on occasion of the 90th Anniversary
      Competitiveness, Training Organizations and Decent Work are the topics of the Simapro Workshop. Simapro is a System which measures the productivity (Sistema de medición de la productividad integral). The local governor inaugurated the Simapro Workshop which united Mexico (the host country), Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Honduras, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Peru and Venezuela.

      Child labour eradicated on coffee plantations in Chiapas
      ILO Director for Mexico and Cuba congratulated the Chiapas Governor on the eradication of child labour on coffee plantations, with 17 plantations receiving "Free of Child Labour" certification. Marking ILO's 90th Anniversary, this progress has also strengthened the agenda to guarantee access to justice for vulnerable communities such as migrants and indigenous populations. Objectives include eliminating the word 'illegal' from all Chiapas legislation in connection with migrants as well as securing just remuneration and social security for workers.

      The National Service for Training in Industry (SENATI) gives an Honourary Award to ILO at its 90th Anniversary
      The National Service for Industry Training (SENATI), a prestigious vocational and training center in the region, honoured the ILO contribution in establishing a structure that made the SENATI a model technical training. SENATI conducts technical cooperation projects and helps to consolidate support in the institutional development field. SENATI works to build capacity of instructors and managers in the training center.

      Continental Union Meeting brings together union representatives from 12 Latin American Countries, marking ILO 90
      The ILO Regional Office in Latin America hosted a Continental Union Meeting bringing together representatives from 12 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Spain. The event emphasized the contributions of ILO values to the development of labour rights and sustainable peace. Secretary General of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas presented the Director of the ILO Regional Office in Lima with the book "Sindicatos 2009: estrategias frente a la crisis, el multilateralismo y los acuerdos comerciales y de inversion".
