South-South Cooperation: Good Practices of Labour Inspection on the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labour

South-South cooperation will take centre stage today at the 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour 15-20 May 2022, Durban, South Africa during the panel : South-South Cooperation: Good Practices of Labour Inspection on the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labour.

Discussing and disseminating the good practices of the labour inspectorates of Brazil, Cabo Verde, Peru, Portugal, and Uruguay, in support of the eradication of child labour, the panel will highlight how an effective labour inspection system can play a central role in ending child labour. The event also examines the importance of supporting and enhancing South-South and triangular cooperation as an important tool in this area of work. The ILO’s Department of Partnerships and Field Support will moderate this panel.

Co-organized by the ILO and the Government of Brazil, the event takes place within the framework of the complementary agreement for the ILO-Brazil South-South Partnership (2009), which focuses on promoting the fundamental principles and rights at work and social protection for all. In the period 2005–2022, Brazil has contributed more than US$ 25 million in domestic development funding for projects in Brazil as well as in other developing countries within the context of South-South and triangular cooperation.
