The ILO, the private sector, and projects related to the MNE Declaration

The Tripartite Declaration of Principles Concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (The MNE Declaration) is the ILO’s international guide on enterprises and their interaction with labour and social policy issues. It is both a voluntary and practical instrument to promote good practice by enterprises accepted internationally by employers, workers and governments, and based on international labour standards.

The objective of the MNE Declaration is to encourage and support the positive contribution that enterprises can make to economic and social progress.  It is the most comprehensive international instrument on the labour dimension of the operations of MNEs, and covers areas such as industrial relations, work and life conditions, realization of the fundamental principles and rights at work, and training and skills development for employees.

The ILO Helpdesk, as part of the Multinational Enterprises Programme, can be contacted for confidential advise in this regard at assistance@ilo.org. It is a one-stop shop for company managers and workers on how to better align business operations with international labour standards.
