ILO India hosts first 'Consultation on Labour Migration: Advancing resilient, inclusive and sustainable policies and institutions in India'
The two-day event sought to promote labour migration as a key lever in achieving Decent Work for All.
Mr Bhupender Yadav, Union Cabinet Minister for Labour & Employment; and Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, delivered the Chief Guest address. Ms Chihoko Asada-Miyakawa, Assistant Director General and Regional Director, ILO office for Asia and the Pacific, who was on mission in India also shared the global perspective and importance of migration.
Other key dignitaries at the inauguration included Mr Ausaf Sayeed, Secretary (CPV&OIA), Ministry of External Affairs; Mr Hiranmay Pandya, President, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh; Mr A. Didar Singh, Ex-Secretary, MOIA and Advisor-Migration, All India Organization of Employers. Mr Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator for India, fortified the UN’s commitment to safe labour migration.
Over the two days, panellists were represented by ILO’s constituents, academics, and civil society organizations. The consultation saw detailed discussions on international and internal labour migration to advance ILO’s Fair Migration Agenda, policy visions to achieve SDG 2030, the challenges and opportunities in a post-COVID-19 world, the latest FPRW principle adopted-Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), bridging skill gaps and reintegration to be achieved through overarching gender responsive policy perspectives. The consultation in-all, had 140 participants.
