ILO Deputy Director-General meets Indian officials

During her visit to New Delhi, Ms Sandra Polaski paid a courtesy call on Mr Shankar Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, as well as other officials at MOLE.

NEW DELHI (ILO News) - Mr Aggarwal, while welcoming Ms Polaski to India and recalling that India is a Founding Member of the ILO, spoke about the long and strong relationship between India and the ILO. Indicating that India understands its responsibilities as a Founding Member, he thanked ILO for its continuous guidance and support on labour-related issues. Mr Aggarwal stressed on the fact that India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world today and the country’s main priority is to create employment opportunities for 10 million people every year. The Secretary reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to promote a robust social security structure for each and every worker in the organized and unorganized sector.

Ms. Polaski expressed her satisfaction with the long and strong relationship which the ILO shares with the Government of India, and the Ministry of Labour & Employment in particular. She indicated that the relationship is broadening with time and new pathways needed to be added to this partnership.
