ILO Deputy Director-General for Policy visits India

ILO Deputy Director-General for Policy, Ms Sandra Polaski visits India to meet with the constituents and other stakeholders.

Ms Sandra Polaski, Deputy Director-General for Policy, will visit New Delhi from 5 – 7 October 2015. Ms Polaski is responsible for providing overall leadership of the ILO’s research, policy and statistical work across the whole range of labour and employment issues. During her visit in India, Ms Polaski will meet with the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) and other ministries of the Government of India; employers and workers organizations as well as other partners.

On October 6th, Ms Polaski will launch some of the knowledge products prepared under the Ministry of Rural Development/ILO technical partnership on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (MGNREGA) and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). These include training materials for barefoot technicians (MGNREGA) and for contractors & field engineers (PMGSY) and impact assessment study of PMGSY roads. This highly anticipated event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan. Ms Polaski will also participate in the Institute for Human Development’s 2nd Decennial Lecture on the Future of Work jointly organized by the Institute of Human Development (IHD) and ILO in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India. The Public Lecture will be held at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, on 7 October at 11am. In addition, a high-level dialogue will be organized by the ILO to discuss a job-centred development agenda with the objective to discuss priorities and challenges in India, particularly in the context of employment and job creation, as well to highlight ILO’s global agenda and ensure there is better alignment of ILO’s work with India’s priorities.
