ILO Asian chief meets UN Resident Coordinator in India

ILO Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Ms Nishimoto, met the Resident Coordinator for the United Nations and the UNDP Resident Representative for India, Mr Yuri Afanasiev, along with the United Nations country team.

On 7 August, Ms Tomoko Nishimoto met the Resident Coordinator for the United Nations and the UNDP Resident Representative for India, Mr Yuri Afanasiev, along with the United Nations country team.

During her meeting with Mr Afanasiev, Ms Nishimoto provided insightful updates on ILO’s initiatives in the region and the global post-2015 development agenda. Ms Nishimoto expressed her appreciation for ILO’s visible acknowledgement in the adopted text, “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. Keeping in mind the medium and long-term vision for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), she stated that, a dedicated goal for social protection and workers’ rights is a step in the right direction.

Referring to ILO’s extensive analytical research base and wide pool of international specialists, Ms Nishimoto suggested that greater technical assistance in the form of policy and advice should be given to programmes in India.
