  1. Local partnerships forged to create employment opportunities for the youth

    Public and private sector partners have pledged their support to young people in Masbate, Antique, Maguindanao and Agusan del Sur. These young people were among those trained by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) on labour market-responsive entrepreneurship and technical vocational skills in coordination with the provincial local government.

    Over a hundred youth leaders and representatives met with government agency officials, workers and employers group, academe, and civil society organizations in a youth employment forum dubbed, “Kahit Saan, Kahit Kailan: Marangal na Trabaho para sa Kabataan Matatagpuan (Any Time, Any Where: Decent Work for Young Filipinos).” The forum is part of the International Labour Organization’s declaration of March as youth employment month and of a series of nationwide action planning workshops that seeks to address concerns on youth employment and migration in the Philippines.

  3. 100 days after Sendong: Time to restore livelihoods through decent jobs

    One hundred days after Sendong, many storm-affected individuals are in search of decent jobs to rebuild their lives and to restore their livelihoods. Regie Loyola, 29, was one of the 624,000 people whose livelihoods had been affected when Tropical Storm Sendong hit many parts of Northern Mindanao last December 2011. “Livelihoods were washed out by the storm,” said Regie, a helper and mechanic assistant. “Many storm-affected people are searching for jobs after the storm to feed their children and to help their families survive. But it is hard for me to look for a job because I did not finish high school.”

    The Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP) presented to national and international stakeholders the gains of the three-year demonstration Project during the country’s first celebration of Climate Change Consciousness at the SMX Convention Center in Manila, 21-22 November 2011. CCAP, having three of the coveted presentation slots was able to share and obtained positive responses and commitments to replicate the mechanisms developed and tested in Agusan del Norte.

  2. Direct interventions set to end child labour in Northern Samar

    Guided with the results of the baseline survey, the Northern Samar Child Labor Committee along with local officials planned and designed interventions on child labour. These interventions included action programmes and direct services focused on education, health, skills development, and psycho-social aspect including child labour monitoring and integrated service delivery.

  3. Partnerships inked on entrepreneurship and skills training for youth

    The International Labour Organization (ILO), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Technical Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will jointly implement the training for disadvantaged youth in Masbate, Antique, Maguindanao and Agusan del Sur from September 2011 to June 2012. The training targets a minimum of 2,400 out-of-school youth in the four provinces.
