   Moderated by Professor Niall O’Higgins from Salerno University in Italy, this forum seeks participants’ experiences, expertise and feedback on the issue. Participation is open to all who have an interest in youth employment related issues.

2. International Committee on Seafarers Welfare Party in the Park

   26 June 2010

   As part of the 2010 Year of the Seafarer, the International Committee on Seafarers Welfare organized a Party in the Park. The ICSW Party in the Park aimed to supplement, support and highlight the vital work undertaken by all regulators, employers, unions and voluntary workers who work together to improve safety, welfare, and labour standards for seafarers. Over 1400 seafarers with their wives and children, including members of the Filipino and international shipping community joined the event.

3. Bondoc-LED Inter-agency Consultation Workshop

   24 - 25 June 2010

   The ILO, with FAO as its partner, convened a two-day inter-agency consultation workshop in Lucena to harmonize collaboration local government units (LGUs), government line agencies and NGOs operating in Bondoc Peninsula, Philippines. Fifty participants including the mayors of the four municipalities selected for project roll-out joined the meeting. Local officials discussed how the project, funded through the Japan Human Security Trust Fund, could buttress their own programmes through local economic development.

4. Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Examined through Survey Methodology Meeting

   24 - 25 June 2010

   The IPEC Statistical Information and Monitoring Programme on Child Labour organised a discussion of surveys to gather data on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC). Representatives from Bangladesh, Mongolia, Cameroon and the Philippines met and presented CSEC pilot survey results using workplace-based and household-based approaches on 24-25 June in Cebu.

5. 1st National Steering Group(NSG) Meeting

   23 - 24 June 2010

   The members of the National Steering Group commit to take steps to strengthen the water utilities sector in the Philippines. They aim to establish a permanent mechanism to address water utilities challenges through social dialogue between workers, water operators, government and other stakeholders.

6. JP YEM YOUTHink launch and 1st YOUTHing session on Youth Development & Migration

   23 June 2010

   Led by the DOLE and NYC, the event is part of the consultation process to hear what the leaders, movers, shakers, thinkers and the youth have to say about issues on youth, employment and migration. It will have two parts: 11- 12 pm: Launch of YOUTHink Series . 1 - 4 pm: 1st YOUTHink session with the theme Youth Development and Migration.

7. Inception workshop for MDG-F JP on children, food security and nutrition

   22 - 24 June 2010

   Participating UN agencies convened an Inception Workshop with implementing partners to review the joint programme and discuss the work plans for the first year of implementation. The programme, towards ensuring food security and nutrition among children, is one of the projects awarded by the Government of Spain for UN agency work to attain Millennium Development Goals in the Philippines. It is aimed at contributing to reduce malnutrition among young children (MDG 1 to eradicate poverty and hunger) and reduce child mortality (MDG 4) by complementing government effort to focus on children aged 0-24 months through ideal feeding practices. The goal is to create an enabling environment where breastfeeding and appropriate feeding are promoted and supported by communities, and lead to improved nutrition levels.

8. Greener Business Asia Project: Tripartite Validation Meeting

   22 June 2010

   The Philippine economy grew modestly in 2009 due in part to the impact of natural disasters. In 2010, DOLE Institute for Labor Studies conducted research for the ILO Greener Business Asia project. Results were validated in a meeting with government, employers and workers representatives, with the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines as observer.

9. Workshop on Conciliation/Mediation of Labour Disputes for Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)

   28 - 30 April 2010

   The course aimed to develop participants’ knowledge and understanding of consensus-building approaches to conflict management and dispute resolution. The course further aimed to enhance participants’ skills and practical competence in consensus-based dispute resolution processes.

10. Overcoming the Jobs Crisis and Shaping an Inclusive Recovery: The Philippines in the Aftermath of the Global Economic Turmoil

    11 - 12 March 2010

    The forum aimed to discuss the lessons from the global economic crisis response and look into ideas about more coherent national job-rich recovery programmes and mechanisms to respond to recurring emergencies.

1. Philippine Tripartite Constituents Support Decent Work for Domestic Workers: Unanimous Call for an International Convention to Set Standards

   The Philippine government, workers groups and employers groups have collaborated together with non-government organizations, faith-based institutions, local and overseas domestic workers groups as they embark on the Philippine Campaign on Decent Work for Domestic Workers.

2. ILO 90th Anniversary in the Philippines: Decent Work and Social Justice in Times of Crisis

   22 April 2009

   As the International Labour Organization marked its 90th anniversary, a forum on “Decent Work and Social Justice in Times of Crisis” was held on 22 April 2009. The forum discussed impacts of the global economic crisis on the labour sector and assessed how to move forward toward sustainable economic recovery.

3. High-Level Regional Forum on Responding to the Economic Crisis - Coherent Policies for Growth, Employment and Decent Work in Asia and the Pacific

   18 - 20 February 2009

   In coping with the current crisis, most countries in Asia and the Pacific benefit from sound financial institutions and a record of sustained growth and macroeconomic stability. Poverty however remains widespread and systems of social protection are fragile and underdeveloped. Even a slight decline in the rates of economic growth can have dramatic social repercussions, particularly among vulnerable sectors and groups. Social distress intersects with political instabilities and tensions. A strong Asian response to the crisis is a critical component of the strategy to set the global economy on a sustainable path out of recession.

   Aims to provide multi-sectoral stakeholders at the national and international level a forum to discuss current issues, define emerging issues and formulate a plan of action to address the issues related to gender, migration and development.

1. Celebrating International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples

   9 August 2007

   The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is commemorated globally every 9th of August. The celebration is part of the Second International Decade for the World’s Indigenous Peoples (2005 – 2015) which was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in its 2004 session. Its Programme of Action was adopted in November 2005. This year’s celebration organized from 8 to 9 August was in partnership with the Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines, the United Nations agencies led by the ILO, UNDP, UNIC and UNFPA, New Zealand Embassy, Canadian Embassy, NCIP, UP Asian Center, Manlilikha and Haribon Foundation.

2. World Day for Safety and Health at Work

   28 April 2007

   This internationally recognized campaign is celebrated globally to promote promote safe, healthy, and decent work.

3. ILO Forum for International Women's Day

   7 March 2007

   The International Women’s Day 2007 focus was on Celebrating working women - breaking barriers, driving change. The ILO led a campaign to honour women who had pursued their ideals against great odds.

1. Launch of the ADB Core Labor Standards Handbook

   13 December 2006

   The Asian Development Bank (ADB) believes that decent working conditions help reduce poverty, raise living standards and enhance the quality of economic growth by increasing productivity. Since 1999, the ADB has worked with the ILO on a regional technical assistance project to promote and improve labor standards. The Core Labor Standards Handbook, launched on 13 December 2006 at the ADB headquarters is a result of a joint collaboration between the ADB and the ILO.

2. The 2nd Global Report on Child Labour 2006

   14 June 2006 - 14 June 2008

   Each year, on 12 June, the World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL) has focused on one of the worst forms of child labour listed in Convention No. 182, starting with the unconditional worst forms, such as child trafficking. This was then followed by child domestic work, and then child labour in mining last year. The event is aimed at mobilizing people around the world against child labour and its worst forms, reflecting local cultures and customs, while encouraging the participation of authorities, the media, civil society and the public at large.

1. Twelfth Asian Regional Meeting

   9 - 11 December 1997

   The International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted a series of wide-ranging Conclusions in which governments, and representatives of workers' and employers' organizations urged the ILO to "vigorously pursue" its opportunities to make an "essential contribution" to the economic and social development of Asia.
