Decent work for domestic workers

Decent Work for Domestic Workers Begins at Home Campaign

In support of the global campaign to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the adoption of the Domestic Workers Convention (No. 189) 2011, on 16 June 2015, ILO officials from Manila Office joined their colleagues around the world in raising awareness of domestic workers’ rights and responsibilities as employers of domestic workers, with a simple gesture of taking photos holding the campaign signs with either their domestic workers, loved ones or friends.

Rights begin at home and we can all help make decent work a reality for domestic workers by taking one step at a time:
  • Treat domestic workers with respect
  • Recognize their work
  • Pay a decent wage
  • Guarantee sufficient rest
  • Provide decent living conditions
Domestic workers make a significant contribution to the functioning of our households. They take care of the needs of our households and our loved ones. Domestic workers are human beings with the same and equal right like other human beings; they, too, are workers with the same and equal labour rights just like other workers.
