International Committee on Seafarers Welfare Party in the Park

As part of the 2010 Year of the Seafarer, the International Committee on Seafarers Welfare organized a Party in the Park. The ICSW Party in the Park aimed to supplement, support and highlight the vital work undertaken by all regulators, employers, unions and voluntary workers who work together to improve safety, welfare, and labour standards for seafarers. Over 1400 seafarers with their wives and children, including members of the Filipino and international shipping community joined the event.

The Philippines is the world’s leading supplier of seafarers. In celebration of the 2010 International Year of the Seafarer declared by the International Maritime Organization, the International Committee on Seafarers Welfare (ICSW) organized a Party in the Park.

Over 1400 seafarers with their wives and children, including members of the Filipino and international shipping community joined the event held on 26 June 2010 at the Luneta Seafarers Centre.

Mr Dani Appave, ILO Senior Maritime Specialist explained the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 among seafarers and their families as well as members of the international shipping community.

Thousands of seafarers queued in the ILO booth to get information on the MLC, 2006. Seafarers also received “Decent Work for Seafarers – Ratify the MLC, 2006” free shirts and photos with their families.
