ILO staff members recognized for contribution to Viet Nam’s statistical development

With ILO’s support, Viet Nam is now able to apply newest statistical standards on the measurement of labour market issues.

HANOI (ILO News) – Two ILO Viet Nam staff members were awarded the medal of appreciation “For the cause of the Viet Nam Statistics” by the General Statistics Office (GSO) on 6 May on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Viet Nam Statistics Foundation and GSO’s bestowal of the First-class Labour Order.

GSO recognized Labour Economist Valentina Barcucci and Nguyen Thi Le Van, national project coordinator of the Equal opportunity in post COVID-19 recovery: Making structural transformation work for all project as well as ILO Viet Nam for their support to improve the quality of statistical data of the country.

The collaboration between the ILO and GSO started in 2010 when the Labour Force Survey became an independent survey in the national statistical system of Viet Nam.

With ILO’s technical support from ILO, Viet Nam’s Labour Force Survey has become one of the most informative labour surveys in the region. It now apply newest statistical standards on the measurement of labour market issues.

The GSO also stepped up the quality of monitoring of sustainable development goals (SDGs) with the development of a general statistical list of SDG indicators.
