2011 World Day for Safety and Health at Work in Malawi

Several activities were carried out at Dwangwa Sugar Corporation and at national level in observance of the World Day for Occupational Safety and Health.

The events included fire drills, first-aid administration, demonstration of safe working procedures for high risk operations, and OSH-themed popular theatre performances, including dances and sketches. Publicity posters were also supplied by the Ministry of Labour’s Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health and displayed in prominent locations within and around the company’s premises.

At national level, the following activities were carried out over the days leading up to, and including, the 28th April 2011:
- Display of publicity banners in strategic, prominent public places in the cities and towns of Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu and Zomba;
- Placement of publicity messages in the print media (three biggest newspapers) and two popular radio stations.

In addition, a documentary on the state of occupational safety and health in Malawi is currently being edited by the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health in the Ministry of Labour, and is scheduled to be aired on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s TV Station in the month of June 2011.
