IGAD Region Media Competition on reporting Labour Migration

The ILO is implementing a technical cooperation project titled “Free Movement of Persons and Transhumance in the IGAD Region: Improving Opportunities for Regular Labour Mobility” (FMPT) in close collaboration with IGAD secretariat with the financial support of the European Union.

Under the framework of this project, the ILO is pleased to announce the launching of IGAD Region Media Competition on Reporting Labour Migration for media professionals covering topics related to labour migration in and from the IGAD region. The competition is open from 29 July – 15 October 2021.

The objective of the IGAD region competition is to increase the quality and coverage of reporting on labour migration in and from the region. Media and communications professionals are invited to submit their published media pieces related to the topics of Labour Migration published between 15 October 2020 and 15 October 2021 through the electronic submission form. Specific topics include migrant workers recruitment practices; roles of social partners in labour migration governance and protection of migrant workers; protection of migrant workers through the application of international labour standards; and free movement of persons in the IGAD region. The deadline for submissions is 15 October 2021.

Winners will be selected by a panel of experts from IGAD Member States, based on creativity, accuracy and balance, protection of migrants, and positive portrayal of labour migration in and from the region (see Terms and Conditions for details).

The competition will award eight professional prizes i.e. seven national for each IGAD Member States and one regional awards.
