    Tri-National Workers Workshop: Towards Promotion of Decent Work for Migrant Domestic Workers along the Lesotho-Zimbabwe-South Africa Corridor

    10 - 11 October 2014

    Trade unions and domestic workers’ organizations from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Lesotho developed a common action plan and a strategy to promote migrant domestic workers’ rights at the tri-national workshop, organized in the framework of the EU funded Global Action Programme for Migrant Domestic Workers and their Families (GAP-MDW).

    Bondage, rights and voice in the Indian Ocean world, 16th century to present

    9 - 11 October 2014

    International workshop from the France-Quebec program, sponsored by ANR and FQRSC and coordinated by Alessandro Stanziani (CRH-EHESS) and Gwyn Campbell (McGill University). Scholars, activists, representatives of international organizations and NGOs will explore the relationship between historical and contemporary forms of servitude and human trafficking in the region and will interact to set a new research agenda and new policies orientations. Beate Andrees, head of the ILO Special action Programme to combat Forced Labour will give a presentation on “The Price of Having a Job. Labour Recruitment Practises in Global Markets”.

    Consultation/Validation Workshop on the Implementation of Mutual Recognition of Skills in ASEAN countries

    24 - 26 September 2014

    Consultation/Validation Workshop on the Implementation of Mutual Recognition of Skills in ASEAN countries was held on 24-26 September 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia. This workshop is a follow up workshop from previous activities undertaken by the ILO to support the establishment of a regional skills and qualification frameworks. The workshop will present priority occupations identified by the AMS to employers’ and workers’ organizations for their validation. The workshop also plans to develop a tripartite action plan that will lead to the formation of a mutual skills recognition mechanism between AMS to achieve the free flow of skilled labor, one of the goals of the ASEAN Economic Community.

    Planning Meetings on the Community of Practice Network for Domestic and Migrant Domestic Workers

    International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) conducted a series of visioning and planning workshops under the auspices of the Global Action Programme on Migrant Domestic Workers and their Families (GAP-MDW) in order to identify priority products and services to be delivered to migrant domestic workers through the established Community of Practice (CoP) and to train IDWF members to use the tool.

    Representatives of 20 domestic workers’ organizations attended the regional workshop on Strengthening Labour Rights and Social Protection with a view to strengthen their national capacities and mobilize for domestic and migrant domestic workers’ rights.

    Paraguay-Argentina Bi-national Workshop on Decent Work for Migrant Domestic Workers

    20 - 21 September 2014

    Paraguay and Argentina establish a joint working agenda and develop an action plan on migration in order to promote decent work for migrant domestic workers at the bi-national meeting on Building a Labour Strategy for Decent Work of Migrant Domestic Workers, organized in the framework of the EU funded Global Action Programme on Migrant Domestic Workers and their Families (GAP-MDW).

    Sub-regional meeting with Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar (CLM)

    18 September 2014

    Sub-regional meeting with Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar (CLM) is held on 18 September 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand. ILO ASEAN TRIANGLE Project hosts a one-day consultative workshop with Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar (CLM) to discuss their capacity building needs to be supported by the ATP in the next two years. Representatives from CLM countries identify and share their priority areas of labour migration governance while representatives from the Philippines share their experience of managing labour migration. Sub-regional and country work plans are developed as a result of this meeting.
