Tripartite Meeting of Experts on Sustainable Development, Decent Work and Green Jobs

This meeting will bring together experts from around the world to review and endorse draft policy guidelines for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all.

Experts nominated by governments, workers’ and emploers’ organizations will review, amend and adopt draft policy guidelines based on a compilation and thorough review by the Office of experiences from country policies and sectoral strategies towards environmental sustainability, the greening of enterprises, social inclusion and the promotion of green jobs.

Through tripartite dialogue, the meeting aims to distill lessons and good practices in respect of policy formulation in each of the nine policy areas identified. Indeed, the intended outcome of the meeting is to identify and recommend ways to give practical effect to the guidelines in terms of their dissemination and application at country level.  

The nine policy areas identified are:

1) Policy coherence and institutional arrangements for a just transition for all;
2) Social dialogue for a just transition;
3) Macroeonomic and growth policies;
4) Industrial and sectoral policies;
5) Enterprise policies;
6) Skills policies;
7) Occupational safety and health policies;
8) Social protection policies;
9) Labour market policies.

The objective of these policy guidelines is to enable ILO constituents to leverage the process of structural change towards a greener and low-carbon economy for the large-cale creation of quality employment opportunites.

The 321st Session (June 2014) of the Governing Body of the ILO endorsed the proposal to hold a tripartite meeting of experts in 2015 as a follow-up to the conclusion of the 102nd Session of the International Labour Conference in 2013 concerning achieving sustainable development, decent work and green jobs.
