Action to combat trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation: Identification and protection of victims

The conference will provide an overview of the results of the “FREED” Project, present the studies on trafficking for labour exploitation and forced labour in Italy and Poland, present the national versions of the handbook for labour inspectors and discuss their application on actual cases, discuss transnational cooperation mechanisms between labour inspectors and law enforcement agencies in source and destination countries, and share ideas about future steps towards an effective response to forced labour and labour exploitation.

The Department for Equal Opportunitites Italy (DEO) and the International Labour Organization together with national partners from Italy, Poland, Portugal and Romania have implemented the EC-funded project “Transnational Multi-Stakeholder Action to combat trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation. Identification and protection of victims – FREED” from 2008 – 2010. The final conference will bring together participants from all project countries and in addition representatives from EU Member States to share project outcomes, look at good practices in the area of victim identification and protection from project countries and other countries and to discuss further steps to enhance cooperation.
