ILO Technical Cooperation projects on Domestic Work
In response to demands from national constituents, INWORK provides technical assistance to countries committed to improving working conditions of domestic workers with the support of donor countries and organizations. This may take on various forms depending on national situation and needs, such as:
- Technical advice and research in support of legal or policy reform, or ratification of Convention No. 189;
- Providing space for dialogues among tripartite partners;
- Developing awareness strategies;
- Training workers, employers and government staff in specific policy areas;
- Facilitating the organization and representation of domestic workers and their employers;
- Improving statistical data on domestic work;
- Innovating methodologies for assessing employment patterns and working conditions in domestic work.
- Integrated actions towards improved and more equitable working conditions for vulnerable groups of workers (1 June 2014 - 31 December 2015): the ultimate objective of this programme is improved, more equitable working and living standards for workers especially those in vulnerable situations. The programme achieves this by strengthening the capacities of national governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, and other governance institutions to assess, design and implement effective policies, laws and programmes concerning wages and earnings, working time and other conditions of work.
- Global Action Programme on Migrant Domestic Workers and their Families (1 February 2013 - 31 January 2016): this programme seeks to promote the human and labour rights of migrant domestic workers worldwide by addressing the challenges that make migrant domestic workers particularly vulnerable to the risks of exploitation and abuse.
- PROMOTE: Decent Work for Domestic Workers to End Child Domestic Work (1 March 2012 - 31 December 2016): this project promotes the realization of decent work for domestic workers as a means to reduce child domestic labor.
- Decent Work for Domestic Workers: Advocating Institutional Reform in the Middle East (1 December 2012 - 30 November 2014): the ILO is working with countries in the Arab States to provide options for reform of national policies and institutions to protect migrant domestic workers rights.
- Promoting the Rights of Women Domestic Workers in Lebanon (2 May 2011 - 1 May 2014): the project enhances economic integration for women migrants and improved labour migration governance and social dialogue as a means to contribute to poverty alleviation through decent work for migrant workers.
