Exchange of knowledge and experience on SSE public policies for local economic development in Spain

On 22 May 2018, the Foro de Economía Social y Solidaria Para el Desarrollo Local (Forum on Social and Solidarity Economy for Local Economic Development) was organized in Barcelona, Spain by C.I.T.I.E.S. (International Centre for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer on the Social and Solidarity Economy) and the City of Barcelona.

The event brought together SSE actors from Canada, Spain, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the United States with the aim of exchanging experiences on SSE public policies supporting local economic development globally. The ILO participated in the event to present its various activities and projects in support of SSE public policies, namely the ILO SSE Academy, the country case studies published, and current research projects.

The Spanish Government has announced its Strategy of the Social Economy 2017-2020 in March 2018 (available here in Spanish only) highlighting the key areas of support for employment and entrepreneurship in social economy enterprises, ranging from legislation and generation of innovative mechanisms including engagement in the digital economy to promotion of gender equality, social responsibility and social inclusion at the national and international levels. The strategy also includes promoting participation of Spain in the next ILO SSE Academy to be organized in Spain in the second half of 2018.
