World Day of Social Justice 2013
Progress Denied: The impact of inequalities on development
The panel will explore the various forms and manifestations of inequalities which are central to the post-2015 discussions.
Inequalities are a global challenge that harms everyone. Inequalities are often closely associated with and reinforced by specific forms of discrimination, including in the social, economic, legal and cultural spheres. However, inequalities are much greater than differences and often focus more on fairness and social justice.
Panelists will provide specific examples of how inequalities result from structural barriers, are incompatible with sustained progress for all and prevent people from enjoying dignity, human rights and interacting as equals in society.
