Promoting key ILO conventions and fair recruitment guidelines related to labour migration in Ethiopia

Under the framework of the FMPT project, videos and informational materials on ILO convention 97 and 143 and the ILO General Principles for Fair Recruitment have been translated into Amharic to increase awareness on ILO labour migration conventions and fair recruitment guidelines in Ethiopia. The FMPT team conducted a national validation workshop from 19 – 21 February 2020 at Bishoftu, Ethiopia to validate the translation of the informational materials involving experts working in the area of labour migration within different government ministries, social partners and NGOs.

A total of 22 participants i.e. Communication and Labour Migration Experts drawn from the Ethiopian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA); Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA); Federal Attorney General Office; social partners i.e. Ethiopian Employers Federation (EEF) and Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Union (CETU); non-governmental organizations working in the area of labour migration and the ILO attended the event.

At the end of the workshop, the nine videos and three informational materials on ILO labour migration, conventions and Fair Recruitment Guidelines were translated in Amharic and a glossary of best synonyms in Amharic produced.
