GENEVA (ILO News) – The ILO will host a one-day conference on maternity protection to mark 100 years since the adoption of the first international labour standard on maternity protection. The Maternity Protection Convention, 1919 (No.3), recognized the right to employment protection and paid leave associated with childbirth. It was also the first convention to focus on issues of gender equality.

The conference “A Century of maternity protection: Transforming leave and care policies for a better future of work for all”, will take place on Friday 8 November 2019 in Room II R-3 South of the ILO’s Geneva headquarters, between 09.00 and 17.30. The event is being organized jointly by the ILO and the European Commission, in collaboration with UNICEF, UN Women and the International Network on Leave Policies & Research (INLPR).

The conference programme is available online.

Interviews for print, web or broadcast media can be scheduled via the ILO Department of Communication: newsroom@ilo.org, +4122/799-7912.
