Launch of the independent Tufts University assessment of the ILO-IFC Better Work programme
GENEVA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are to issue results of independent assessment of their Better Work programme by Tufts University on September 26.
This publication is an in-depth, longitudinal review of the programme by a multidisciplinary team from Tufts University.
Better Work aims to improve working conditions and promote competitiveness in global garment supply chains through advising, training and assessing factories, and also by influencing the laws and policies of governments, employers, international buyers and trade unions.
The study, “Impact evaluation of Better Work: A Report from Tufts University”, assessed 15,000 survey responses from garment workers and 2,000 from factory owners from Haiti, Jordan, Indonesia, Nicaragua and Vietnam, gathered between 2010 and 2016.
The evaluation looked at correlations between improved working conditions at Better Work factories and worker well-being. It also examines the impact on productivity and profitability for factories involved.
A detailed summary of the report’s main findings, called “Progress and Potential: How Better Work is Improving Garment Workers’ Lives and Boosting Competitiveness” will be available in English.
Report highlights (executive summary) will be available in English, French, and Spanish.
The report will be under strict media embargo for publication on or after 14:00 GMT, 16:00 CET, on Monday, September 26.
