New job opportunities in an ageing society

Co-authored paper prepared for the 1st Meeting of the G20 Employment Working Group under the Japanese G20 presidency (Tokyo, 25-27 February 2019)

This paper analyses new job opportunities in aging societies arising from increased demand for long-term care (LTC) services. It reviews the current situation in G20 countries in terms of coverage of LTC policies and services, and focuses on the quality of LTC services and jobs. It also refers to policy implications in response to rapid population aging; greater investments in care present compelling opportunities for decent work, but also open the way for more progress towards gender equality. The paper concludes with a menu of LTC policy options to improve employment quality and the use of technology.
