• ILO to hold Asia and Pacific Regional Meeting in Busan, Republic of Korea 29 August - 1 September
  22 August 2006 - Government, worker and employer leaders from some 40 Asian, Pacific and Arab countries will gather at the 14th Asian Regional Meeting of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Busan, Republic of Korea from 29 August to 1 September to shape an agenda aimed at addressing a wide range of employment and workplace issues in the region.

• Montenegro becomes 179th ILO Member State
  18 July 2006 - The Republic of Montenegro has become the 179th Member State of the International Labour Organization (ILO) following receipt in Geneva of a letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miodrag Vlahovic, stating, on behalf of the government, that the Republic of Montenegro formally accepts the obligations of the ILO Constitution.
• ILO hails new UN Declaration on strengthening global efforts to promote Decent Work for poverty reduction and sustainable development
  06 July 2006 - The International Labour Organization (ILO) today hailed the adoption by the United Nations of a Ministerial Declaration on full and productive employment and decent work, saying it would help strengthen efforts by the UN and the multilateral system aimed at creating jobs, cutting poverty and providing new hope for the world's 1.4 billion working poor during the next decade.

• New forms of violence at work on the rise worldwide, says the ILO
  14 June 2006 - Violence at work, ranging from bullying and mobbing, to threats by psychologically unstable co-workers, sexual harassment and homicide, is increasing worldwide and has reached epidemic levels in some countries, according to a new ILO publication.

  12 June 2006 - The Governing Body of the International Labour Office (ILO) elected Mr. Membathisi Mphumzi Shepherd Mdladlana, Minister of Labour of the Republic of South Africa, as Chairman for its 2006-07 Session.
• President of Costa Rica H.E. Oscar Arias addresses International Labour Conference "Decent employment lies at the heart of peace"
  08 June 2006 - "Decent employment lies at the heart of peace", H.E. Oscar Arias, President of the Republic of Costa Rica, told delegates to the annual Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO) today. The President called for concrete measures to ensure a fairer globalization and an initiative to reduce spending in the arms race.

  05 June 2006 - More than 400 million new jobs will be required over the next decade to keep pace with growth of the labour force, mostly in the developing countries, through policies replacing jobless growth with "job-rich" growth, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization Juan Somavia told the ILO's annual labour conference here today.
