      11 July 2008 - In December 2001 Argentina was thrown into the worst financial crisis of its history. In response to the massive unemployment that ensued, the International Labour Organization, with funding from Italian Cooperation, is working with the Argentine government to adapt job training to meet the needs of emerging sectors, like Argentina’s tourism industry.       06 March 2008 - A new report from the International Labour Organization shows that economic empowerment for women is vital for equal participation of women and men in the labour market and equal access to obtaining decent work. In Sri Lanka, Rupa Manel Silva is leading the way with a bank run by women for women.

    • Nigetech: A way out of poverty -
      12 December 2007 - In partnership with the European Commission and the ILO, Niger’s Ministry of Labour runs a vocational training programme called Nigetech, so far helping 30,000 people work their way out of poverty. Creating decent work opportunities benefits not only workers in Niger but their extended families as well. (Video in French only.)
    • Promoting employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in Poland -
      02 December 2007 - Like in other European countries, inactivity rates of Polish workers with disabilities tend to be much higher than that of other workers. While their share of the working age population in Poland is 10 per cent, their share in employment is only 3.8 per cent, says a new ILO report on the situation of disabled people in Poland.

    • Burkina Faso: Protecting the Environment by Profiting from Garbage -
      09 October 2007 - Burkina Faso’s first plastic recycling centre is paving the way for a new kind of development project. It provides a money earner to the poor while tackling environmental pollution. Local industry also benefits – the recycled plastic granules cost half the price of importing new plastic from abroad.

      12 June 2007 - Worldwide, agriculture is the sector where by far the largest number of working children can be found - an estimated 70 per cent, of whom 132 million are girls and boys aged 5-14.
