Public works programmes: A strategy for poverty alleviation - The gender dimension revisited in Employment-Intensive Investment Programmes in 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean

The results of the study reveal that Programmes such as South Africa’s Expanded Public Works Programme, which include components of child and other social care, alleviate the burden of unpaid care work mostly undertaken by women. That way, they free their time/labour to participate in activities in paid market work.
