Unearthing the potential for inclusive growth: A rapid market assessment of the horticulture sector in Southern Shan State

Short Description

This research was commissioned as part of the ILO’s support to the SECO – UN Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity project which aims to enhance horticultural productive capacity and improve tourism development, management and promotion for the Inle Lake region of Shan State, Myanmar. The report provides an overview of the horticulture market system and looks more specifically at five horticulture sub-sectors, namely avocado, ginger, tea, tomato and mango, which are subsequently ranked according to their potential for inclusive growth. Given the project’s dual focus on horticulture and tourism, the assessment also takes into account the potential linkages between the focal sub-sectors and tourism.
