The request for voluntary coverage must be made before the end of your
contract or before the start of your LWOP.
You must pay both your and the Office's contribution during periods of
voluntary coverage, in advance, for the entire period of coverage.
For voluntary coverage at the end of contract: the period, once chosen,
cannot be extended. For example, if you choose to remain voluntarily
affiliated for only three months, you may not extend that period for an
additional three months.
