    The provisions of Council Regulation (EC) No 2157/2001 of 8 October 2001 on the Statute for a European company (SE) shall have the force of law in this country in conformity with protocol I on horizontal adaptations of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, cf. Act No. 2/1993 on the European Economic Area where the protocol is given the force of law. The regulation on European companies, European public limited companies, is printed as enclosure to this Act. In conformity with the regulation on European companies (the European company regulation) this Act stipulates detailed provisions on European companies. Unless otherwise provided these provisions only cover European companies which are registered in Iceland (Article 1).

Leave may be claimed on the occasion of birth, primary adoption of a child under the age of eight, and permanent foster care of a child under the age of eight. Parents shall each have an independent right to maternity/paternity leave of up to three months, with possible extension. Also regulates notification of maternity/paternity leave, safety and health in the work place, right to maternity and paternity leave in the event of stillbirth and miscarriage, parents' rights to payments from maternity/paternity leave fund, accumulation and protection of rights, and applications to social security institute. Part V deals with exceptional circumstances such as multiple births and illness of a child and its mother. Section VI provides for maternity/paternity grants to parents who are not active in the labour market or who are attending full-time educational programmes. Section VII deals with parental leave, and Section VIII contains common provisions. Date uncertain.

    Entitles providers for disabled and seriously ill children to benefits from the national insurance system. Made under Act No. 118 of 1993 on social assistance as amended through Act No. 152 of 1995. It repeals Regulation No. 150 of 1992 on financial aid for those providing for handicapped and sick children.
