    This Act impelments the relevant regulations of the European Communities, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms and other international treaties that are part of the legal system. These include-
    a) the right to employment and access to employment;
    b) access to the professions, business and other self-employment;
    c) business, business conditions and other related activities, including remuneration;
    d) membership and activities of trade unions, works councils or employers' organizations, including the benefits that these organizations to their members;
    e) membership and activities in professional associations, including benefits that these public corporations provide to their members;
    f) social security;
    g) returns and the provision of social benefits;
    h) access to health care and its delivery;
    i) access to education and the provision thereof;
    j) access to goods and services, including housing, if they are offered to the public or to deliver them.

    Decree No. 288/2003 defining activities and working places that are prohibited to pregnant women, to breast-feeding women, to mothers until the ninth month after delivery, to minors and conditions under which minors can exceptionally execute such work as a part of their training.

    Makes the Czech law in conformity with the law of European Communities: Directive 92/85/EEC of 19 October 1992 and Directive 94/33/EU of 22 June 1994.

    Provides for establishment of Government Council for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men. Main function of Council is to draw up proposals aiming at promotion and achievement of equal opportunities for men and women. Also regulates composition (inter alia, a representative of trade unions, a representative of employers and representatives of NGOs) and internal procedures of Council. Available in English.

    Acts No. 273/2001 on rights of members of national minorities and amendment of some Acts. - English translation

    Regulates rights of members of national minorities as well as responsibilities of ministries and other authorities and administrative bodies of regional self-government in relation to them. National minority is defined as "a community of citizens of the Czech Republic who live on the territory of the present Czech Republic and as a rule differ from other citizens by their common ethnic origin, language, culture and traditions. They represent a minority of citizens and at the same time they show their will to be considered a national minority for the purpose of common efforts to preserve and develop their own identity, language and culture and at the same time express and preserve interests of their community which has been formed in the course of history". Rights of national minorities include: free choice of membership of national minority, right of association of members of national minority, right of participation in dealing with matters concerning national minority, right of using name and surname in the languare of national minority, right of multilingual names and denominations, right of using language of national minority in official documentation and hearing before court, right of using language of national minority during elections, right of education in language of national minority, right of development of culture of members of national minorities, and right of spreading and receiving information in language of national minority.

    Act No. 217/2000 amending Act No. 1/1992 on wages, compensation for stand-by working and on average wage, Act No. 143/1992 on wages and compensation for stand-by working in organizations and organs financed by the budget, and some other Acts.

    Provides, inter alia, for the equality of men and women with regard to remuneration for the same work or for work of the same value. Also defines 16 wage categories.

    Act No. 167/1999 amending Act No. 1/1991 on employment, Act No. 9/1991 on employment and on activities of the organs of the Czech Republic in the sector of employment, Act No. 368/1992 on administrative fees and Act No. 65/1965 promulgating the Labour Code.

    Provides for, inter alia, the prohibition of discrimination (racial, religious, sexual, etc.) in employment. Defines the competent organs for granting work permits to aliens as well as the permit to operate an employment agency.

    Decree of the Ministry of Health No. 185/1998 amending Decree No. 261/1997 designating work and workplaces as forbidden to all women, pregnant women, mothers up to the ninth month after childbirth, juveniles, and providing for exceptions.

    Abolishes some types of forbidden work stipulated under Notification No. 261/1997.

    Act on extension of maternity leave, maternity benefits and children's allowances from sickness insurance (No. 88/1968) as amended up to 1999.

    Regulates provision of various social security benefits. Part II provides for pregnancy and maternity benefitss. Determines persons entitled to benefits, compensatory contribution, conditions for recognising claims to benefits, period of provision of benefits, manner of calculation, and provision of financial assistance to employed man. Part IV provides for modifications concerning specific groups of persons entitled to benefitss. These include citizens who are registered as seekers of employment. Part V contains joint, transitory and final provisions.
